Bronchos Fall to Weatherford in Opening Round Playoff Game
Weatherford, OK - Bethany (4A-#18) had to go on the road in the opening round of the Class 4A Playoffs on Friday night and take on the home team, the Weatherford Eagles. Weatherford controlled the game from the outset leading by as many as 12 points in the first half, but the Bronchos battled back during the latter stages of the 2nd quarter and were down just five points at halftime. During the third quarter the Bronchos continued to improve and play more like the team that beat Weatherford by 21 points early in the season, though in that win Weatherford had two starters out due to injury. By the end of the 3rd quarter the score was tied and it appeared as though the Bronchos had found their stride, but it was not to be. Weatherford hit some critical shots from behind the arc late in the game and Bethany struggled at times to break the Eagle full court pressure defense and ultimately fell 58-52.
This loss doesn't knock the Bronchos out of the playoffs, but it will make advancing past the regional tournament very difficult. The Bronchos will take on Cushing next Thursday, February 22 at 3:00 PM at Cushing High School. To advance out of the regional tournament Bethany will have to win three straight games, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Click the link below for an updated bracket.
