Bethany Beats Washington for 3rd Place in Conference
Washington, OK - The Bethany Bronchos traveled to the brand new Warrior Event Center in Washington last evening for the annual Match Play contests of the Canadian Valley Conference. During match play weekend the six schools from the north division and the six schools from the south division are matched up to play games for each place based on their regular season finish. The matchup of #3 seeds was between the Washington Warriors (3A) and the Bronchos (4A-#18).
The Bronchos jumped out to an 11 point lead after a quarter only to see that lead vanish as Washington drew back close to take the game to halftime down just 29-26. Although the game never got away from Washington the rest of the night, the Bronchos were able to control the game with good defense and a great transition game. The Warriors pulled close at times, but the Bronchos always had an answer and ended up pulling out a 51-46 win over a Warriors team who just defeated Blanchard a couple of weeks ago. That Blanchard team then turned around and beat Bethany last Friday, so this was a nice win for the Bronchos heading into the playoffs.
With the Thursday night draw during the Match Play series the Bronchos now have eight days to rest, recover, and prepare for their first round playoff matchup on Friday, February 16. That first round District playoff game will be on the road as the Bronchos and Lady Bronchos take on Weatherford. The Lady Bronchos (4A-Unranked) and Weatherford (4A-#14) will play at 6:30 PM, and then the Bronchos (4A-#18) will take on Weatherford (4A-Unranked) at 8:00 PM.
