Volleyball Continues Hot Streak with Upset Win Over Mount St. Mary
Bethany, OK - The Bethany Volleyball team already had an impressive start to the season going this year as they sat at 10-0 on the year including a tournament win, a win over Crossing Christian (4A-#4) and Heritage Hall (3A-#6), but last nights win over Mount St. Mary (5A-#3) tops them all. For just the second time in school history the Lady Bronchos were able to defeat St. Mary, which is one of the premier volleyball programs in the state as they have won state titles in both Class 4A and Class 5A.
The Lady Rockets actually grabbed the momentum from the start, taking the first set 21-25 and a 1-0 lead in the match. But Bethany stormed back and took the next two sets, 32-30 and 26-24 to take a 2-1 lead overall. In what was a fantastic back and forth battle Mount St. Mary pulled back even in the match by winning a 22-25 fourth set. In the final set though the Lady Bronchos took control and came away with a 15-12 victory which has the potential to vault them even higher in the Class 4A rankings from the current spot at #5. Bethany's Whitney Bowie and Addie Ray both continued their strong play as of late. Bowie had 22 kills in the match along with 2 solo blocks and 4 block assists. Ray contributed 19 kills of her own and had 13 digs. Beanna Clanton, who had 48 assists, and Jacki Lynn, who had 28 digs, both played fantastic as well in the upset victory.
The Lady Bronchos next match up with Oklahoma Bible Academy on Tuesday, September 4 at the Bethany Gymnasium. Let's have a great crowd of Bronchos on hand to cheer them on!
