Taber Leads Bronchos to Victory with Big Day at the Plate

Blackwell, OK - Elizabeth Taber would not be denied at the plate on Thursday, picking up four hits and leading Bethany (4A) to a 17-15 win over Blackwell (4A). Taber singled in the first, singled in the fourth, doubled in the fourth, and singled in the sixth. Bethany collected 16 hits, while Blackwell had 18 in the high-scoring affair.

Blackwell took an early lead in the second inning when Ashford singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs for the Maroons. Blackwell went on to score seven runs in the second inning. Lewis, Brewer, Moore, Ashford, and Cannon all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Then the Lady Bronchos' bats came alive as Bethany took the lead for good with eight runs in the fourth inning. It started off when Blackwell's Lewis threw a wild pitch allowing one run to score for the Bronchos. An error scored another run for Bethany, and then Jadyn Barger homered on a 3-2 count, scoring four runs, and Taber doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

Later in the game, after Blackwell scored three runs in the top of the sixth, the Bronchos answered with three of their own. Blackwell scored when Gummow singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Bethany answered when Taber singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run and Avery Parsells singled on a 0-2 count, scoring another. Kailey Belknap started the game for the Bronchos, and she surrendered seven runs on seven hits over one and two-thirds innings, walking zero. Barger ended as the winning pitcher for Bethany, as she surrendered two runs on three hits over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking zero. Parsells threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen. Bethany collected 16 hits on the day. Taber, Parsells, Kate Thomas, Lillie Mathers, and Barger all managed multiple hits for Bethany. Taber led the Bronchos with four hits in five at bats.

Rowe took the loss for Blackwell. She went three and a third innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and striking out three.
