Bethany Brings Home Strong Finishes at Top Tier Deer Creek Invitational

Bethany's Sylvia Lambert cruises to a 3rd place finish in the 100 Meter Hurdles. She also finished in 2nd place in the 300 Meter Hurdles at the Deer Creek Invitational.

Edmond, OK - Since spring break this track season has been plagued by abnormally cold weather and Monday night was no different as the Bronchos competed at the very competitive Kathy Scoville Memorial Track Meet at Deer Creek in cold and windy conditions. This meet is a traditional one on Bethany's schedule as it gives the Bronchos (4A) the chance to compete against some of the best 5A and 6A programs in the state of Oklahoma including Edmond Santa Fe (6A), Deer Creek (6A), Norman (6A), Westmoore (6A), Guthrie (5A) and Southmoore (6A). The Bronchos brought home very strong finishes in the team standings as both the boys and girls finished in 6th place out of the 12 teams competing which was a great performance considering the caliber of the competition.

On the girls side Sylvia Lambert continued her impressive running so far this year as she finished as the runner up in the 300 Meter Hurdles and in 3rd place in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Lambert currently has the 3rd best time in the state in Class 4A in both of this events so far this year. Carissa Burns also ran well on the day bringing home an impressive 5th place finish in the 100 Meter Dash and a 6th place finish in the 200 Meter Dash. Sophomore Kelsey Knox also has been running well for the Bronchos and Monday night was no different. Knox finished in 5th place in the 200 Meter Dash and she anchored the 4 x 400 Meter Relay team to a runner up finish in a very competitive field. She was joined on the relay by Lambert, Abigail Parent, and Kaylen King.

The Bethany boys team continued to have balanced scoring from both the sprint events and distance events as they have in each meet so far this year. The 4 x 100 Meter Relay team of Justin Koonce, Scott Lynch, Nate Jones, and Jackson Howard finished as the runner up in a very fast field of sprint relay teams. Lynch also continued to run extremely well in his individual events as he finished 3rd place in the 200 Meter Dash. In the hurdle events Lawson Stout ran his best time of the year in the 110 Meter Hurdles to bring home a 3rd place finish. The Bronchos also ran several season bests in the middle distance and distance events on the night. Blake Balenseifen ran his season's best in the 800 Meter Run, 2:07.85, which is a top 10 time in the state in Class 4A so far this year. Carson Sandvik also ran a personal best in the 1600 Meter Run as he went 4:40.52, which is good enough to move into the top 5 in the state in Class 4A. The final running event on the boys side was the mile relay and the team of Lynch, Howard, Jones, and Zack Copeland finished in 5th place in a super competitive field. Finally, in the field events Broncho Josh Ward threw a season's best 114'10" in the discus which was good enough to secure 5th place as well as some team points for Bethany.
