Bethany's Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Zac Coulson as the Bronchos' next Head Cross Country Coach. In addition to working as the Head Cross Country Coach, he will also serve as the Assistant Track & Field Coach, working with the distance runners. Coach Coulson comes to Bethany from Piedmont Public Schools where he has served as the Assistant Cross Country and Track Coach for the past four years. During those four seasons he has helped those Piedmont programs to an impressive run of post-seasons honors. He has been a part of a Boys Cross Country State Championship in 2020 as well as three other State Runner Up finishes between the boys and girls cross country programs. He also helped lead Piedmont to a Track State Runner up finish in 2021 as well as five total regional championships in cross country. Bethany's Athletic Director, Jon Arthur, said, "We are very excited to welcome Coach Coulson to the Broncho family. Coach Coulson has been part of one of the most successful cross country and track programs in the state at Piedmont for the last four years and we look forward to him building upon the already strong foundation at Bethany."   

In addition to his successful coaching history in Cross Country & Track, Coach Coulson has also coached basketball at Piedmont as well as previously at both Tuttle and Yukon. In 2021 he was named the Junior High Coach of the Year by the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association. Before getting in to coaching, Coach Coulson, also served in the United States Armed Forces for several years, and prior to that he ran cross country at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK. When asked about his coaching philosophy, Coach Coulson said, "I want to help each student athlete reach their fullest potential and learn from the life lessons that running teaches. I want each one of my student athletes to be committed, respectful to themselves, coaches, classmates, teammates, teachers, and the community, and have integrity in everything they do. We will be excellent in all aspects, develop healthy and respectful relationships, and always be together as a family." Coach Coulson named two people when asked about coaches that have impacted his life. First of all, his high school coach, Randy Upshaw. Coulson said, "He instilled in my what hard work is, to never give up no matter how things get and if you are passionate about something you work hard for it. He is the reason why I wanted to become a coach." Coulson also mentioned Bethany's Coach Eric Sailer as well, who Coulson was able to student teach under. He said, "Coach Eric Sailer has been a mentor for me and has provided guidance to me as a Christian man, husband, father, coach, and teacher. He inspires me and shows me how important relationships are in life."

Away from coaching, Coach Coulson enjoys spending time with his wife, Jade, and three year old son, Bentley. He says one of their favorite things is to watch movies together as a family, they even own over 3,000 DVD's! He also enjoys traveling and running, He will soon be running his 3rd half marathon in 2022.
