Boys & Girls Cross Country Teams Qualify for the State Championships
Enid, OK - The Broncho Cross Country teams traveled to Enid this past weekend to compete in the Class 4A Regional Cross Country Championships. The girls and boys squads qualified for the State Championships a year ago and they are both headed back to the Class 4A State Meet this coming Saturday in Shawnee.
The Lady Bronchos qualified by finishing as the fifth place team at the regional behind a strong 10th place finished from freshman Katelyn Hoefar. Jessie Harris and Kaylen King both also finished in the top 25 for Bethany. The other members of the team for the Lady Bronchos Sylvia Lambert, Alicia Garrett, and Peyton King all finished in the top 60 in the field of over 90 runners. The Lady Bronchos will look to improve upon their 7th place finish at the State Championships a year ago which was the highest in school history.
The boys team from Bethany also had a strong showing at the regional meet finishing in 3rd place overall behind Mount St. Mary and Weatherford. Freshman Chapman Neal led the way for Bethany with a 12th place finish overall. The Bronchos had four other runners in the top 30 including Jeremiah Martinez (22nd), Carson Shirola (24th), Mason Parsells (29th), and Blake Balenseifen (30th). Daniel Birchell (34th) and Kyle Zielinski (38th) also had a valuable role in displacing competitors from other teams. Overall Bethany had seven runners in the top 40 out of a field of over 100 runners. Bethany's team was the Class 4A State Runner Up a year ago.
The Class 4A State Championships will be held on Saturday, October 20 at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, OK and will be hosted by Oklahoma Baptist University. The 4A girls race will start at 3:00 PM and the 4A boys race will start at 3:45 PM.
