Broncho Boys Champions of the Bethany Twilight, Girls Finish 4th

Scott Lynch runs at the Plainview Invitational

Jackson Howard runs at the Plainview Invitational

Bethany, OK - The Bethany Athletic Complex was the site of this year's 3rd annual Bethany Twilight Track & Field Meet, which was held on Thursday, March 15. This meet has become a premier early season track and field event in the state as it always boasts a strong field including schools from class 2A to 6A.

The Bethany (4A) boys had a great showing in this meet finishing as the team champions scoring 138 points. Tuttle (4A) finished in 2nd with 100 points, Enid (6A) finished in 3rd with 92 points, and Washington (2A) finished in 4th with 82 points. The Bronchos once again had a nice mix of point scoring between the distance and sprint events. The Broncho 4 x 800 relay team of Carson Sandvik, Cameron Jernigan, Tyler Cobb, and Jeremiah Martinez finished in first place with a time of 8:43.55 which is an eight second improvement over their time from a week ago. Bethany also dominated the 1600 meter run on the evening with Sandvik finishing in 1st place, Jernigan finishing in 3rd place, and Cobb finishing in 4th place to bring home valuable points for the Bronchos. Hurdlers Manual Maya and Lawson Stout both continued to show improvement as they finished in 3rd and 5th place in the 110 meter hurdles, respectively. Stout also finished in 4th place in the 300 meter hurdles.

Broncho sprinters Scott Lynch and Jackson Howard also both ran extremely well on the day. Lynch finished in 1st place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.16 and 2nd place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.38. Howard finished in 1st place in the 400 meter dash, running a time of 53.24 which was a very good time considering this meet took place with around 25-30 mph sustained winds throughout the afternoon and evening which makes any race 400 meters or longer extremely difficult. Lynch and Howard also teamed with Jeremiah Martinez and Nate Jones for a 2nd place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay. The long jumpers also had a nice evening for Bethany with Zackary Copeland finishing in 2nd place, Jackson Lenhart finishing in 3rd place, and Jalen Beaver finishing in 4th place. All three of those jumpers went over 20 feet on the day. Finally on the boys side Bethany's Payton Harrell and Stout finished in 2nd place and 3rd place, respectively, in the Pole Vault to score 14 points for the Bronchos.

The girls team also had a good day as they finished fourth out of the 10 teams that were competing at the meet. The scoring for Bethany started with a 4th place finish by the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Alicia Garrett, Olivia Parent, Jessie Harris, and McKenzie Jernigan as they ran 11:16.70 which is about a six second improvement from a week prior. Garrett also had a 5th place finish in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:44.99 while Jernigan finished in 5th place in the 1600 meter run in a time of 6:19.49. Sylvia Lambert also continued to hurdle well finishing in 2nd place in the 300 meter hurdles and 3rd place in the 100 meter hurdles. Her 100 meter hurdles time of 16.94 was a season's best for her and the 300 meter hurdles time of 49.64 was also impressive with the windy conditions.

The Lady Bronchos also scored some points in the sprint events starting with the 4 x 200 meter relay that finished 3rd place. This relay was made up of Kelsey Knox, Abigail Parent, Cameron Stewart, and Cassidy Vogel. Freshman Kaylen King also continued to run well finishing with a 2nd place time in the 400 meter dash while Kelsey Knox finished in 4th place in the 200 meter dash. Knox and King also combined with Lambert and Parent to finished in 2nd place in the 4 x 400 meter relay in a time of 4:23.79. In the field events Sydney Walstad finished in 4th place in the discus throw and teammate Jenna Cobb came away with a 5th place finish in the high jump.
