Lady Bronchos Hold on to Defeat McLain and Advance

Launch the media gallery 1 player - media #2Cushing, OK - The Bethany Lady Bronchos have had problems finishing games in the second half over the last several weeks, but tonight they were finally able to outplay their opponent in the second half, and it's a good thing as a loss at this point will end their season.
The Lady Bronchos went into the halftime trailing 22-21 after struggling to convert transition baskets throughout the first half, but they proceeded to play a fantastic third quarter defensively. During that third quarter the game swung into the Lady Bronchos' favor as they held McLain to just two points while scoring nine of their own to take a 30-24 lead into the final period.
In that final quarter the Lady Bronchos extended the lead early and went up by as many as eleven points only to see McLain come all the way back to a four point deficit with just three minutes to play. It was at that point junior Bri Cotter sealed the victory for the Lady Bronchos on the free throw line. In the fourth quarter alone Cotter was 9 for 10 from the free throw line and on the night she led the team with 21 points. In the second half particularly it was Cotter's ability to penetrate and score or draw a foul that spurred the Lady Bronchos to a victory in the late stages of the game as they were able to hold on for a 44-38 victory and a trip to the next round of the 4A Regional Tournament.
The Lady Bronchos return to the court on Saturday, February 24 at 1:30 PM against Mannford who is coming off of a 75-23 loss to Harrah (4A-#2) on Friday night. Mannford is 13-12 on the season while the Lady Bronchos are 6-18.
