Boys Soccer Advances to State Quarterfinals with 3-0 Win over Classen
Bethany, OK - Bethany has been on a hot streak as of late, and that continue last night as the Bronchos took down Classen 3-0 in the opening round of the Class 4A Playoffs. Beckham Williams opened up the scoring early with a great shot from outside the 18 yard box to get the Bronchos going. Williams and the rest of the team created several additional chances before Ruslan Calderon made it 2-0 midway through the 1st half.
Bethany Coach Sean Williams said, "Boys played great last night, executing our game plan and exploiting the Classen SAS formation, and playing with great intensity needed for a playoff game. I challenged the boys to get a goal in 1st 10 minutes of 2nd half to take the legs out of Classen, and Landon Brant added the 3rd just five minutes after half. Classen SAS switched out of their traditional 3-5-2 to a 4-3-3 to try and create more opportunities, but our defense played great all game and made it very difficult to break down." Seth Greiner added his 9th shut out of the season and was solid all night long for the Bronchos. Coach Williams added that this was "one of the best 80 minutes of the season collectively with our mentality and energy."
Bethany will once again play at home in the State Quarterfinals this Thursday, May 4 at 8:00 PM. The quarterfinal matchup will give the Bronchos a chance, like the girls squad, to avenge a 1-0, early season road loss to Woodward. Woodward defeated Newcastle in the opening round 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.
