Boys Soccer Gets 2-1 Win Over Chickasha
Bethany, OK - The Bronchos took to the field on Tuesday night in a re-match of the playoff game that ended their season a year ago. In that game Bethany (4A) fell to Chickasha (4A) to end the Bronchos' season, but this game had a different outcome. Despite trailing 1-0 Bethany came out and played inspired in the second half to score twice and win the game by a final of 2-1.
Chickasha scored the first goal of the game and the only goal of the first half on a bad pass to the Broncho goaltender. Bethany also missed several good opportunities in the first half, but right out of halftime Matt Stubbs connected on a cross from Brooks Rund. Before much more of the game had passed the Bronchos took the lead on a Benito Ausley goal which came off of a great pass by Junior Reyes. That goal would be enough as Bethany was able to play great defense the rest of the way.
Broncho coach Sean Williams said, "This was a very physical game in nature, however we played with a lot of effort and poise...It was unfortunate for us to be trailing at half, but we responded out of half time scoring both goals early in the 2nd half. Our defense also did a great job all night of limiting their opportunities. I was extremely proud of our effort throughout and our poise not to panic or react to the situation." It was overall a great early season win for Bethany over a team that made a run in the Class 4A Playoffs a year ago.
The Bronchos travel to Clinton (4A) and Santa Fe South (5A) on Thursday and Friday this week. Both of those opponents are perennial title contenders in their classifications which means this week is a chance for Bethany to see how they stack up against the best.
