Bronchos Down Weatherford in 2-1 Battle
Bethany, OK - The Bronchos (4A) took to the field for the second time this season after falling to 5A powerhouse Heritage Hall in their season opener last week and left with a 2-1 victory over Weatherford (4A). Senior Eventz Malaska was an outstanding performer for Bethany with two goals on the night. The Bronchos had a fast start early in the game as Malaska converted on a penalty kick early in the match off of a Weatherford handball inside the 18 yard box. Weatherford equalized late in the first half off of a great play, but Bethany played outstanding defense the rest of the night as they controlled the middle of the field. Halfway through 2nd Half, Eventz Malaska broke free on the outside and put in a shot from the endline with virtually no angle, which proved to be the game winner. This was a great team win and Bethany's coach, Sean Williams praised Malaska as well as Benito Ausley, "Benito was dangerous all game in the attack. Our midfield and back line really limited quality chances all night, and Antonio Villegas provided a crucial one on one save late in the first half to keep the score tied going into halftime. Despite the bitter cold, the team cleaned up many of the mistakes they made Friday night against Heritage Hall and defended Weatherford's array of set pieces much better." The Bronchos head to Chickasha on Tuesday, March 12 to face the Fightin' Chicks (4A) who are 1-0 on the season.
