Bronchos Down Weatherford and Advance to the State Quarterfinals
Bethany, OK - Last Friday, for the third straight year, Bethany and Weatherford matched up in the opening round of the Class 4A Playoffs and for the second straight year Bethany comes out on top behind a stellar offensive performance and stout defense. The Bronchos prevailed 38-13 over the Eagles and move to 10-1 on the season while Weatherford will finished their season with a record of 7-4.
The Bronchos were impressive on offense, garnering over 500 total yards on the night, 361 on the ground and 177 through the air. Running back Jacob Kyle continued his hot streak of late rushing for 172 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving. Quarterback Sam Brandt had a huge night as well with 172 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and also had 177 yards through the air and three passing touchdowns. Brandt, as he has all year, connected with three different receivers for the touchdown passes, Ben Lawson, Jordan Flinton, and Kyle.
On the defensive side of the ball linebacker Brodey Claborn had a great night with nine tackles as the defense made yards hard to come by for Weatherford in this one. The Bethany defense allowed less than 200 total yards in the game. Silas Carmack, Lawson Stout, Zach Millspaugh, and Trent McFadden also had good nights on the defensive side of the ball. Sam Brandt, who had a huge night offensive, also had two second half interceptions to help seal the deal against the Eagles.
Bethany will now have to go on the road for the State Quarterfinal matchup with Wagoner. Wagoner is a perennial powerhouse in class 4A and has won three of the past four Class 4A State Championships. The game, played at Wagoner High School, will kick off at 7:00 PM.
